Problem:
Sitting behind a computer named: CISCO, I need to backup a lot of files on another computer named: POWER. I need to transfer files back and forth.
The usual is that I create a shared directory on CISCO, then connect(remote desktop) to POWER, and from POWER, I type \\CISCO in POWER’s start >> run >> open box. This open’s up the shared DIR on CISCO, and then I can drag and drop files.
solution:
An easier method however is to launch my remote desktop client on CISCO,
- click ‘options’
- on the ‘general’ tab, type in the computer name you are connecting to(in this case, POWER), username and password, then
- click the ‘local resources’ tab and check/tick the ‘disk drives’ local device.
- click the ‘connect’ button.
- click ‘ok’ on the prompt: the following local devices will be made available to the remote computer……..
Kindly note that this process will share / make available all the drives/partitions you have on your ‘connecting system’(CISCO) to the ‘connected system’(POWER).
Drag and drop becomes like a, b and c. As you can see, all partitions on CISCO are now available on POWER.
Caution: don’t do this over an insecure network / internet connection. Besides, if you don’t trust the computer you are connecting to, it is better to keep things safe and simple.

Thanks!
