re – central bank of Nigeria, Overdue Payment Notice

I got this is my mailbox this morning, from one of the thousands of Nigerian-reputation destroyers, who have nothing to do but to send all these useless kind of letters round the internet.

And what a pain in the ass when some of them would even call you and then start their fairy tale about how they’ve been emailing you, but you never responded. These scammers are ‘still safe’ because there is presently no way of tracking down the location of a phone-number in real time. They feel secure because they could, for example be in Abuja and yet claim they are in another Nigerian state, and yet, the person at the other end of the line(also in Abuja, for example) has no way of verifying their claim.

I’m quite bothered however, how the NCC, the EFCC, the GSM companies and its stakeholders could implement a policy whereby mobile phone numbers could be registered to individuals, and we could have a ‘yellow-book / telephone directory so that such individuals(like the sender of this mail below) could be located and thrown into the deepest part of our prisons.

Can the Federal government mandate GSM companies to have its subscribers register their phone-numbers against their names and contact details? It doesn’t matter if someone has a phone number on each network(GLO, MTN, Celtel, Nitel etc), what we want to know is: who owns the number.

share your thoughts please.
