A friend of your’s truly (LD) unfortunately contacted the guy at 08038715926 and a deal was struck to purchase 2-units of the above mosquito repellant.

LD paid NGN6,000.00(six thousand Naira) since Wednesday into the Oceanic Bank Account with details:

name: Ifeanyi Chukwu K George

account number: 233-000-100-9279

Mr Ifeanyi George has since disappeared, hasn’t produced the goods and isn’t picking up his phone number. FFO has tried calling the above MTN number with other numbers and disguising as a fresh enquirer – and George is still doing his sales.

Beware!

I believe this calls for Nairalist.com admin to put strategies in place to verify the identity of product sellers on his website, before their adverts are published, else, he and Nairalist.com might become a tool in the hand of fraudulent web-surfers.

p.s: looking at the picture closely, you’ll notice Adobe Photoshop playing around.

  1. Hello,

Nairalist has lots of procedures to protect the users of Nairalist from scam adverts, but this is a new type of scam we were not aware of before now. I’m going to look for a way to deal with this type of scam; I think we need to inform people that Nairalist is meant for LOCAL TRANSACTIONS ONLY, just like Craigslist. If you can’t see what you’re buying physically, don’t pay for it. Because there’s no easy way to protect against this kind of legitimate-looking advert scam.

    Regards,
    Seun Osewa.

  2. @whoever posted the story above.

You cannot blame the Nairalist admin. He tries to ensure scam free ads are posted on his site. I think before people pay for anything its only common sense that they check and make sure what they are buying is really worth what was being advertised. There are dubious people no matter how hard one tries to make things right.

  3. Presently, this cannot be prevented. Until we have a payment system like paypal where the buyer pays and the seller cant cash until the buyer confirms receipt of good within a period.

  4. @poster,

thanks for bringing this up. I am a victim too, making a purchase of some electronics items using the references I found in Waseet Newspaper freely distributed in Lagos.
